Tofu is a food that is eaten by many vegetarians and vegans. It is derived from the curds of soybean milk. Originally from China, tofu is gaining more recognition as a nutritious meat alternative in western countries. Here are some of the health benefits of eating tofu:

Tofu is High in Protein

Protein is essential for maintaining every kind of cell in your body. They boost your immune and nervous system. Protein also helps grow healthy hair, skin, teeth and nails. Foods that are high in protein aid in weight loss because they curb hunger. People who do not get enough protein in their diet have problems like hair loss, liver damage, and are susceptible to colds.

Tofu is Rich in Omega-3 Fatty Acids

Most known sources of omega-3 fatty acids come from salmon or tuna. However, tofu is a good way to get this important nutrient. Omega-3 fatty acids are critical for healthy brain function. Firm tofu is a bit harder and it can be cut with a knife. You can also manipulate tofu to change the texture. Here are some ways you can eat tofu:

  • Use soft tofu in smoothies, sauces, or soups
